How to Care For Your Luxury Meadow Robe
by Stacy on Nov 14, 2022
There is a common misconception with luxury clothing that the only way to care for it is to dry clean it. Dry cleaning is not only expensive, but also involves harsh chemicals which can actually destroy the fibers and shorten the life of what should otherwise be a timeless piece.
At Meadow, we want you to spend more time focusing on enjoying your luxury robe rather than worrying about how you’re going to keep it clean. That’s why we’ve designed our Meadow robes with the intention of being able to clean it at home. This will not only save you time and money, but will also allow you to be in control of what products are being used in your cleaning process, thus allowing you to avoid harsh chemicals.
How to clean a cashmere robe (The Megan):
- Hand wash with mild soap such as baby shampoo or a specific wool and cashmere shampoo.
- Use a clean basin or tub to gently soak your robe, submerging the garment and gently moving it around to loosen any debris.
- Once this is complete, replace the dirty water with clean water to rinse the soap out of the cashmere. Avoid running the sweater directly under the faucet as this could damage the fibers.
- After the soap is rinsed out, gently compress (do not wring!) your robe to remove any excess water.
- Do not dry in a machine. Instead, lay it out flat on a towel and allow it to air dry. Also, avoid hanging it to dry as this will cause the cashmere to stretch and ruin the robe’s shape.
How to clean a silk robe (The Betsy):
- Hand wash with mild soap such as baby shampoo or a product geared specifically for delicates.
- Use a clean basin or tub to gently soak your robe, submerging the garment and gently moving it around to loosen any debris.
- Once this is complete, replace the dirty water with clean water to rinse the soap out of the fabric.
- After the soap is rinsed out, gently compress (do not wring!) your robe to remove any excess water.
- Do not dry in a machine. Instead, lay it out flat on a towel and allow it to air dry.
- To remove wrinkles, steam the garment or hang it in the bathroom while the shower runs to gently release the kinks in the fabric. If you choose to iron your robe, be sure to do so only on the insides of the robe, never on the silky exterior.
How to avoid pilling on your cashmere robe:
Pilling occurs as a result of surfaces connecting, like when your sweater continuously rubs against your purse or the sleeves of your shirt rub against the torso. But, pilling can also happen when your clothes rub against each other in the closet as you continuously remove and replace your hangers. This is why we recommend rolling your cashmere robe and storing it in a drawer to both avoid pilling and any creases in the fabric.
